In short: To add Google login to Shopify customer accounts, start the connection to Google from Settings > Customer accounts in the Shopify admin. Then create an app and set up an OAuth client in the Google Cloud Console, and enter the client ID and client secret it issues in the Shopify admin. Once you publish the app in the Google Cloud Console, customers can sign in with their Google account.
When you finish these steps, an option to sign in with Google is added to your store's Sign-in page. To use Google login alongside a sign-up form, see How to use a sign-up form alongside Shop, Google, and Facebook login.
Key points
- You start enabling Google login from the Authentication section in Settings > Customer accounts in the Shopify admin
- During setup, you switch between browser tabs for the Shopify admin and the Google Cloud Console, copying and pasting values such as the OAuth client ID
- In the Google Cloud Console, you configure the consent screen, create an OAuth client for a web application, and publish the app
- Even with Google login, the only customer information synced to Shopify is the email address
- Stores that connect their own identity provider to customer accounts should contact that external identity provider before connecting social login
Is there anything to check before setting up Google login?
To connect Google to customer accounts, you need a Google Cloud developer account. You'll switch between tabs for the Google Cloud Console and the Shopify admin during setup, so keep both open.
You can find out how to use Google Cloud in Google's help documentation.

How do you create an app and configure the consent screen in the Google Cloud Console?
In another tab, sign in to the Google Cloud Console and select an existing project or create a new one. Go to Credentials under APIs & Services, and click Get started under Configure consent screen.
Enter an app name that customers will recognize, such as the name of your online store, and an email address for user support. Then select External in the Audience section and continue. Enter a contact email address for Google to reach you, agree to the Google API Services: User Data Policy, click Continue, and then click Create. The consent screen is what customers see when they allow the connection with their Google account, and the app name and support contact you entered are shown to customers on it. Finally, click Branding and add links to your home page, privacy policy, and terms of service in the App domain section.

Can stores that use their own identity provider set this up?
If your store connects its own identity provider to customer accounts and you also want to connect social login, contact the external identity provider. Before you start setup, check whether you can add Google login.
Your own identity provider is a way to connect your store's own login authentication to customer accounts.

After setup, how do you check that sign-in with Google works?
Open the customer accounts URL shown in Settings > Customer accounts in the Shopify admin in a separate tab, and check that you can sign in with Google using a test customer account.
