In short: Create the membership tier as a customer metafield. Then add it to a metafield block with Howdy's profile page feature to show it on each customer's account page. The block shows the metafield values of the customer who is logged in. Customers with different membership tiers each see their own value, so you don't need to build separate display logic for each tier.
Key points
- In Howdy, you can add metafield blocks and banner images to the profile page. To show membership tiers, use a metafield block
- If you set the customer metafield type to List of single line text, the membership tier can only be set to values you define in advance
- If you turn on Prevent customers from editing (editing disabled) for the membership tier field, customers can't change the value on their account page
- A metafield block shows the values of the customer who is logged in, so each customer automatically sees their own membership tier
- You can add blocks as multiple sections, so you can add a membership tier display and keep your existing profile fields
- You can enter membership tier values manually or update them automatically with Shopify Flow
How do you show membership tiers on the account page?
In the Shopify admin, go to Settings > Metafields and metaobjects > Customers and create a customer metafield for the membership tier (for example, name: Membership tier; namespace and key: custom.rank). Next, in the Howdy app's admin, open Blocks, click Create Block, and choose Customer metafield as the type. Enter a section title, select the membership tier definition you created under Add metafield, check Prevent customers from editing (editing disabled), and click Add. Set the status to Active and save. Finally, in the Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout and click Customize, then open the Profile Page. Place the Howdy block from Add App Block, enter the App Block ID shown in the app's admin, and save. The membership tier field now appears on the account page.

Does the membership tier display change automatically for each customer?
Yes. Howdy's metafield block is embedded in the customer's profile page. It shows the customer metafields of the customer who is logged in and lets that customer edit them. Each customer sees the value stored in their own membership tier customer metafield. For fields you don't want customers to change, such as membership tiers, check Prevent customers from editing (editing disabled) when you add the field. The field is then display-only.
For the customer metafields used in the block, set Customer account access in the definition to Allow read and write (「読み取りと書き込みの許可」). Shopify's Customer Account API is the API that reads and writes data in a customer's own account.

Can you define the membership tier options in advance?
Yes. When you create the customer metafield, set the type to List of single line text. Then register the tier names (for example, Bronze, Silver, and Gold) with Add items under Validation. With this setting, the membership tier can only be set to one of the registered values, which prevents inconsistent spellings.

How do you set and update membership tier values?
You can open the customer under Customers in the Shopify admin and enter the value in the customer metafield field. If you have many customers and want to automate this, use Shopify Flow's Update customer metafield action. It rewrites the value automatically when something happens, such as an order or an update to member information. Howdy also has instructions that use the same mechanism to add customer tags automatically from Shopify Flow, based on customer metafields collected with the sign-up form.
